Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is a U.K. driver's license needed to lease a car?

No, it is not a requirement. The expatriate can drive with an international driver's license for 12 months. After 12 months, the driver needs to have a U.K. driver's license.

  • What is included in the lease?

Leases include warranty and delivery. For new cars, maintenance and road tax are also included. The expatriate will have the option to have maintenance and road tax included for used car lease.

  • What is the estimated delivery time for a lease car?

Once a vehicle has been chosen and all required documents have been submitted, a used car in stock takes approximately 1 month for delivery and a new car order takes 6-12 months.

  • Is insurance included in the lease payments?

No, insurance is a separate product. We can offer insurance guidance, or this can be sourced by the expatriate.

  • Do you offer used vehicles for lease?

Yes, we offer both new and used cars for lease. Lease term between 24-60 months.

  • Can someone lease a car under the age of 25?

Yes, the minimum age for leasing a car in the U.K. is 21 years.

  • When is the down payment due?

The down payment is due prior to taking delivery of the vehicle.

  • Is the down payment refundable at the end of the lease?

The down payment is used to offset the capital cost of the vehicle in the quote, reducing the monthly payments. The higher the down payment, the lower the monthly cost. Down payments are therefore not returned at the end of the lease.

  • Can a vehicle be leased in the name of a company?

Yes, we offer company vehicle lease in the U.K.

  • What can be used instead of a utility bill since the expatriate will have just arrived in the U.K.?

A U.K. bank statement including the expatriate’s temporary address.

  • What can be used instead of a tenancy agreement since the expatriate will have just arrived in the U.K.?

A U.K. bank statement or the temporary accommodation contract.

  • What happens if the contracted mileage is exceeded?

There is an excess mileage charge which is dependent on the vehicle.

  • Who can drive the lease car?

Anybody with a valid driver’s license to drive a vehicle in the U.K. and who is insured to do so, can drive the car with the lessor’s permission.

  • What happens if the lease car needs to be returned earlier?

If a lease car is returned earlier than the lease term, there will be a penalty depending on the remaining months left on the lease.

  • Can the car be taken abroad?

A lease car can be driven abroad for a maximum of 30 days at any one time.

Driver's License

Driving in the United Kingdom with a Foreign Driver’s License

Expats may use their foreign driver’s license for three years after arrival in the UK. Foreigners using their existing driver’s license can do so for a three-year period after their arrival. However, after three years you need to exchange your license to a UK driver’s license.

How to Exchange Your Foreign Driver’s License to a UK Driver’s License

To exchange your license, you must have a permanent address in Britain and have lived there at least 185 days of the last year.
Please check the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) for the most recent information.

Preparation before driving in the UK

Perhaps the most obvious difference when it comes to driving in the UK is that people drive on the left side of the road. Driving laws include only passing cars on the right and observing road marks indicating where you’re forbidden to pass other cars. Before driving in the UK, it is a good idea to read the UK Highway code at
