Rental Car Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I rent a specific brand?

    Rental cars are based on vehicle size, the model/make of car you would receive is based on availability at the time of pick up. However, at some locations, we’re able to assist with Exotic brands. If you are interested in this, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  • Can you assist with a car seat for my child?

    Most Airport branches have car seats available; it is based on availability. Depending on the length of the rental agreement and the pickup location, it can be more economical for the customer to bring their car seats on the flight or purchase a new one at a local store.

  • If my reservation is over a longer period, will the rate go down?

    No, the monthly rate will stay the same. However, the rate may be higher for daily/weekly rentals.

  • Can I pay the rental car with cash or a debit card?

    For security reasons, many Enterprise branches do not accept cash payments.
    Debit card payment: A driver's license must be issued from the rental state; if renting from an airport branch, show proof of an incoming and outgoing flight itinerary. A local rental branch may require the following: Two current utility bills - for example water bill, gas bill, or an internet/cable bill.

  • Is there an age limit for renting a car?

    A driver must be at least 21 to be able to rent a car. No Young Driver fee (21 – 25 years)

  • Additional Driver for U.S?

    Spouse/Domestic Partner is authorized at no additional cost; no need to be present at the rental counter and show proof of driver's license or be listed on the rental agreement – They will, however, need to have a current/valid driver’s license. Co-workers working for the same company as the Main driver can drive the car at no additional cost, there is no need to be present at the rental counter and show proof of driver's license, or be listed on the rental agreement - will need to have a current/valid driver’s license. The main driver will be responsible if they do not have a current license. Insurance will not be valid if a driver drives the rental car and does not have a valid driver's license.

  • Can I bring my pet in the car?

    Pets are allowed in rental vehicles. Customers need to keep pets crated and return their rental car in clean condition and free of pet hair to avoid cleaning/detailing fees. Service animals used by customers with disabilities are allowed in the vehicle without a carrier.

  • Will Enterprise pick me up?

    Yes, our free pick-up service is available at non-airport locations and during regular business hours. Please call your local rental office directly to schedule your pickup time or make additional arrangements. Once picked up and back at the office, a friendly rental representative will complete your paperwork and have you on the road in no time.

  • Will there be an additional charge if I am late returning the car?

    There is generally a 29-minute grace period for daily rentals. If the vehicle is returned within 2 ½ hours of the time it was rented on a subsequent day, additional hourly charges will apply. Hourly charges for your location and rental can be found on your rental contract. If you return the vehicle 2 ½ hours or more from the time it was rented on a subsequent day, you will be charged for an additional day of rental. Please Note: A vehicle that is returned after hours will not be checked in until the next business day. If returning after hours when a branch is closed, the customer is responsible for the vehicle until the satisfactory check-in of the rental vehicle the next business day.

  • Do I need to refuel the vehicle before returning?

    You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle. If you choose to not refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price.

  • What are the Driver's License Requirements for Renting in the US and Canada?

    You need to bring your current valid driver’s license, credit card, and passport when you pick up the rental car. If the home country driver's license is in a language other than English and the letters are not English (i.e., alphabet is not an extended Latin-based alphabet like German or Spanish). Still, in Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, etc., an International Driver's Permit is required.

  • I will take the driver’s license test and need proof of insurance, what should I do?

    Enterprise Rent-A-Car has informed ExpatRide that it violates the standard rental agreement to use a rental vehicle for a driver’s license test.

Rental Car Solutions and Preventative Measures During Covid-19

ExpatRide has been working hard on finding the most convenient rental car offices for pick up and drop off in cases where the closest rental office has been closed due to COVID-19.

In many cases, ExpatRide has even been able to arrange rental car delivery directly to the customer’s residence to avoid the customer going to the rental car office. We’ve also arranged for the rental office to pick up the vehicle at the end of the rental period.


ExpatRide is closely in contact with our global supplier network and their focus on safety and cleanliness. As an example, here is what our partner Enterprise are doing:

We are implementing additional measures to clean and disinfect our locations and vehicles, in alignment with guidance from health authorities. This includes routine cleaning with a recommended disinfectant of all frequently touched surfaces at our locations, such as countertops, door handles, kiosks, workstations, and bathrooms.

We also have a very formal training process in place that instructs all employees about the proper cleaning of vehicles. Of particular focus, our procedures mandate a thorough cleaning and wiping of the interior with a recommended disinfectant. This includes the dashboard, instrument panel, steering column, wheel, accessory panel, center console, cup holders, compartments, seats, between console and seats, between doorjambs and seats, door and door pockets, among other areas. We are frequently reinforcing the importance of this process with our employees.


Additional safety measures are as follows:

  • Limited our physical locations by consolidating operations to centralized branches
  • Curbside pick up to avoid going inside the rental office
  • Vehicle transfer points that may differ from your originating branch location to avoid crowding at the
    local rental office
  • Vehicle delivery when available
  • Keeping the rental offices as sanitized as possible and employees wearing masks and keeping social distance
  • Each vehicle is thoroughly cleaned between every rental and backed with the Complete Clean Pledge.
    This includes washing, vacuuming, general wipe down, and sanitizing with a disinfectant that meets
    leading health authority requirements, with particular attention to more than 20-plus high-touch
    points
  • There are also measures in place to immediately isolate and quarantine any vehicle if needed
